From Identifying a Problem to Creating a Solution: My ok Path to Legal Billing Innovation

In the legal industry, true progress is driven by those willing to confront entrenched challenges—and to reimagine what’s possible. My professional journey has been shaped by a single, persistent question: “How can we transform legal billing from a complicated necessity into a streamlined, value-driven process that empowers both providers and clients?”
After years spent working with law firms, corporate legal departments, and legal technology providers, I saw firsthand how inefficient billing protocols and fragmented communication created unnecessary complexity. These were not just operational headaches—they were obstacles to growth, trust, and innovation across the entire legal services ecosystem.
Unwilling to accept the status quo, I founded the Smart eBill Team with a mission to bridge the gap between legal professionals, technology innovators, and industry leaders. Our vision is to cultivate a collaborative, future-focused community dedicated to raising the bar for legal billing standards and outcomes.
This vision led to the creation of Smart eBill Con—the industry’s first and only conference dedicated exclusively to legal billing innovation. Smart eBill Con is more than an event; it is a movement, a platform for thought leadership, and a catalyst for industry-wide transformation. We bring together forward-thinking practitioners, solution providers, and decision-makers to share insights, spark dialogue, and drive actionable change.
My commitment to advancing legal billing standards also extends to my role as Marketing Director of the LEDES Oversight Committee Board. The LEDES Board is the global authority on legal e-billing and billing standards, and I am honored to work alongside an accomplished cohort of experts shaping the future of legal operations. Through this work, we are ensuring that the frameworks guiding our industry remain robust, relevant, and responsive to the needs of today’s legal professionals.
